St. Malo Provincial Park Bird Walk

On Saturday, August 15th, the Manitoba Important Bird Areas team visited St. Malo Provincial Park for the Manitoba Fiberglass and Vintage Camper Rally! Program Coordinator Mackenzie kicked off Saturday morning’s events with a talk that included information about the Manitoba IBA Program, Species at Risk in Manitoba, and tips for bird friendly camping.

After the talk, Mackenzie led a bird walk through the campground to the beach. 14 campers joined us and were rewarded by sightings including a Belted Kingfisher, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Red-eyed Vireo, and Purple Martins (visit eBird for the full checklist recorded by Luc Blanchette – thanks Luc!). Program Assistant Gibson even spotted a Ruby-throated Hummingbird after the walk while packing up at the events tent!

Thanks to Cindy Greenlay and the Manitoba Fiberglass and Vintage Camper Rally for inviting us and to everyone who braved the rain to attend Mackenzie’s talk and bird walk!

Just a reminder: our Lockport Shoreline Clean-up is scheduled for Friday, September 11th. We could use as many helping hands as possible to gather litter from the shoreline!
